Estonian Society for Music Education
The Estonian Society for Music Education was established on 13 October 1990 to bring together music teachers from general education schools.
The aims of the Society are to support music teachers in their professional work, to provide the latest information about music education, to develop international relations and to offer opportunities for life-long learning.
The Society has been chaired by Aarne Saluveer (1990–1995), Ene Kangron (1995–2002) and Elin Ots (since 2002). Since 1990 the Executive Secretary of the association has been Inge Raudsepp.
Members of the Estonian Society for Music Education have the right:
- to be elected to the organising bodies of the Society;
- to take part in events organised by the Society at a discount price;
- according to the agreement of collaboration, to buy tickets for concerts organised by the Estonian Concert at a discount price.
Conferences:
- A conference dedicated to the 70th birthday of Heino Kaljuste in 1995 (in collaboration with the Estonian Academy of Music);
- A memorial conference on Riho Päts “The past and present of Estonian music education” in 1999 (in collaboration with the Estonian Academy of Music and Tallinn Pedagogical University);
- ”Estonian School Music in 2000” conference;
- ”Music teacher – a shaper of creative educational environment” conference, in 2000 (in collaboration with the Estonian Academy of Music).
In-service training:
Orff workshops: 1994, 1996 (Tallinn), 1999 (Hiiumaa), 2001 (Põltsamaa).
Summer seminars: 1996 (Sauga), 1999 (Kose), 2003 (Jäneda, in colla boration with the Estonian Academy of Music).
Since 1993 Autumn Seminars have taken place in various towns and counties of Estonia: Tartu, Viljandi County, Pärnu and Pärnu County, Saaremaa, Võru County, Lääne-Viru County, Tallinn, Järva County, Harju County, Rapla County, Valga County, Ida-Viru County.

Collaboration partners of the Estonian Society for Music Education are the Ministry of Education and Research of the Estonian Republic; the Estonian Academy of Theatre and Music; Tallinn University; the Estonian Choral Assotiation; the Estonian Concert; the Estonian Music Council; various counties and local governments.

The projects carried out by the Estonian Society for Music Education have been funded by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, the Ministry of Education and Research of the Estonian Republic, the National Examination and qualification Centre, the Estonian Choral Assotiation, the Gambling Tax Board, Tallinn Education Department, the Cultural Heritage Department of the City of Tallinn, Carl Orff - Foundation.
